About this event
Clinical Special Interest Group (CSIG) and Advocacy and Ethics Special Interest Group (A&E SIG) Meeting
Join us in-person at the APHC Hybrid International Conference or via Zoom.
Join us for an engaging and practical discussion on effective communication with families of critically ill neonates, infants, and preschool-aged children.
Families often seek different types and levels of information, while medical professionals may communicate using language that can be misunderstood or misinterpreted. Phrases such as “your baby is doing well,” “your baby failed weaning to extubation,” or “your baby is in intensive care due to low blood sugar related to your diabetes” can carry very different meanings for families than intended.
Communication styles also vary widely among physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and families. Every clinical situation is unique, making it essential for healthcare professionals to approach these conversations with clarity, empathy, and intention.
This session will explore strategies to improve communication and will include 3–4 case-based examples to illustrate common challenges and effective approaches.
Videoconference information will be provided in an email once payment is received.
